With 老九品茶's minor in studio arts, you'll develop the technical and conceptual skills you'll need to enrich your primary field of study while building a meaningful creative practice.

In this program, you'll:

  • Learn methods and strategies for idea generation and concept development
  • Develop technical skills in industry-standard tools and methods used in professional artmaking
  • Gain understanding of the use and analysis of foundational elements and principles of art, including concept, color, and materials
  • Practice giving and receiving constructive feedback
  • Develop confidence in multimodal communication and collaboration.

Program Director, Digital + Studio Arts

Josh Gumiela is an electronic media artist combining low and high technology to create interactive media installations, hybrid instruments & tools, and multi-media performances. He serves as the Program Director for majors and minors within the Digital + Studio Arts department.

Assistant Professor Brighton McCormick is a sculptor, educator, and art fabricator living and working in South Minneapolis. They have a BFA from the University of Minnesota and an MFA from the University of Washington.

John-Mark Schlink MFA

Senior Lecturer - Art
Areas of expertise: Printmaking, drawing, intaglio and relief techniques

John-Mark Schlink received his MFA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and BA from 老九品茶. He teaches Printmaking and Drawing in conjunction with a professional career as a printmaker. His prints have been exhibited in national and international exhibitions including most recently in Edging Forward: New Prints 2018/Winter at the International Print Center in New York and the Formation International Print Exhibition at the China Printing Museum in China.
